i-D and VICE are proud to present an exclusive video celebrating shu uemura and Takashi Murakami’s 2016 holiday collaboration.
Directed by Genki Ito and conceived by Tokyo creative studio JKD Collective, "tokyo wrapping” uses an ingenious light painting technology and various layers of video, time-lapse, and stop motion to wrap Tokyo in colourful ribbons comprised of Murakami’s iconic flower motif. Yumi Shizukusa acts as the enabler, trailing ribbons around the city, awakening flower characters from the Murakami universe as she goes.
The video features and original string score composed by Yuri Habuka.
